
Message from the Principal
We are looking forward to the 2010 -2011 school year. Pikes Peak Prep is excited to announce our new extended day school hours for the 2010-2011 school year. The traditional school day will be from 7:50-3:30. Between 3:00 - 3:30 students will work with their homeroom teachers on getting started on homework assignments with assistance, correcting previous assignments, independent study for credit recovery and academic enrichment. On Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30 - 4:00, any student who does not have 80% mastery in any subject area will stay for free tutoring.
Wednesday is our Club day. Clubs begin at 3:30 and conclude at 4:00. We have a wide variety of offerings including Rock Climbing, Chess Club, French and Spanish Club, Student Council, Yearbook, Science Club, Technology, Gardening, Yoga, and Drama Club.

School's test scores go up, while the statewide scores decline
Highest "proficient to advanced" percent among charter schools
Third grade CSAP scores show Pikes Peak Prep rising from 61 percent Proficient or Advanced in 2009 to 68 percent in 2010. This growth occurred in a year where statewide test scores were down 3 percent.
Additionally, PPP decreased it unsatisfactory rating from 17 percent to 9 percent this year. Statewide this number grew by 2 percent.
All districts in Colorado Springs were down, expect for D20, which remained flat. Compared to other charter schools, PPP demonstrated the highest Proficient or Advanced percentage.

High school students rack up college credits, earn degrees
Lacy Sramek pretty much missed the social scene during her last two years of high school because she rarely was on campus.
She wasn’t skipping. She was in classrooms at Pikes Peak Community College.
At her recent high school commencement ceremony, she was handed an associate of arts degree from PPCC along with her high school diploma. And she didn’t have to pay a cent for tuition, books or fees.
“My parents are very excited,” said Sramek, who will start as a junior at Colorado State University in Fort Collins in the fall. “They only have to pay for two years.” [READ MORE]
Pikes Peak Prep receives grant from Ent Federal Credit Union
Ent Federal Credit Union selected Pikes Peak Prep as a recipient of its Youth Endowment Services (YES) grants for 2010.
Introduced in 2000, the YES program directs specific support to organizations benefiting children and young people in the Pikes Peak Region and in and around Pueblo, Denver and Weld Counties. The program has provided total grants of nearly $475,000 to agencies serving education, health care, and cultural needs, among other services. [READ MORE]

Pikes Peak Prep charter renewed
The charter for Pikes Peak Prep was renewed for five years this week by the Colorado Charter School Institute. The school, at 525 E. Costilla St., serves about 300 students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The school, formerly called 21st Century Charter School, partners with the Boys and Girls Club for free afterschool services and with Pikes Peak Community College so high school students can earn college credits.
Message from the Principal
As the new calendar year begins, many exciting things continue to happen at Pikes Peak Prep, including our first high school boy’s basketball team and our first high school graduation. Our students are in the midst of preparing our annual yearbook. On January 13, 2010, students performed for a gym full of audience members with our Winter Music Concert, comprised of our full choir, the recorder ensemble, wind ensemble, and the concert band.
Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences are being conducted on January 29, 2010, as the semester ends.

Kindergarten is learning even more in 2010 with Ms. Sherman and Ms. Trox. “Learning again in 2010” is their motto for the new year! Currently students are working on learning about coin and dollar bill value in math; they love learning about $$money$$.
