21ST CENTURY CHARTER SCHOOLS SEEK DYNAMIC INDIVIDUALS FOR SCHOOL PRINCIPAL AND OTHER LEADERSHIP POSITIONS.

 A qualified candidate will possess:

  • Principal licensure
  • Master’s Degree or higher (preferred, not required)
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience
  • School Leadership experience (preferred)
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, and communication skills
  • Expertise in creating school policy, procedures, and program development
  • Expertise in curriculum design

The position

A 21st Century Charter School Principal will possess all of the above listed qualities, as well as a desire to work with disadvantaged youth, with the ultimate goal of every child making academic gains. A 21st Century Principal will embody a positive role model for students and staff as well as serve as the primary motivator both. Responsibilities include upholding the 21st Century mission and vision through leading efforts to hire, professional develop, and communicate with staff on an ongoing basis. They will also be the lead contact on curriculum development and implementation, including all student assessments. They will create a positive school climate by creating and enforcing behavior management policies and being accessible to and communicating with all families of students. They will enforce all enrollment policies and take the lead on student recruitment efforts. They will coordinate with 21st Century CEO and Director of Schools on an ongoing basis to assure that the 21st Century educational model is enforced and improved upon continuously.  A qualified candidate will receive competitive compensation including full benefits.

Our Schools:

 The first 21st Century Charter School opened in 2002 in historic Union Station in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was Indianapolis’ first charter school to open under Mayor Bart Peterson’s authorization. Since then 3 more schools in Gary, Indiana, Indianapolis, and Colorado Springs, Colorado have opened. 21st Century Charter Schools continue to grow with plans to open more schools in the near future. All of our schools adhere to the 21st Century model of customized learning. The 21st Century Charter School customizes the learning process for students by creating an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP). Students begin working on their grade equivalent level in each subject and work at their own pace while grouped with students of the same age. The technology based learning program is supplemented by small group instruction. 21st Century Charter Schools emphasize measurable results and create life-long learners.  What We Teach: The 7 Elements of a 21st Century Education

  1. Core Values and Character Education: We at 21st Century believe in creating life-long learners who become quality individuals and contributors to the communities we serve.
  2. State Standards and GQE Requirements: We believe that our students should be held accountable for the same state standards in order to measure and compare the progress of our students with others.
  3. Standards Basic Skills Application: We believe that all students should have the basic skills to build on. We agree that no child should be left behind so we fill in any learning gaps before moving on.
  4. Project-based learning aligned with student interests and state standards: mentoring, internships, employment and community outsourcing opportunities: We recognize that all children learn differently. Sometimes this means using tools like internships and student created, teacher facilitated projects to motivate the learning process. We also believe in creating community partnerships to achieve our goals.
  5. Spanish language instruction: We foster global and cultural awareness, through the study of other cultures and languages. Foreign language immersion often assists children in their English language development as well as put them ahead of the game when going into higher education or establishing a career.
  6. Fine Arts: We believe in creating well-rounded individuals through the visual and performing arts. Be it a Children’s Choir, drum line, theatre, or our excellent art program, we embrace the arts across all subject areas.
  7. Physical Wellness and Conditioning: Through our “movement” courses students learn the mechanics and skills of many sports and other physical activities as well as learn about living a healthy lifestyle and being physically fit.
